The Rwandan authorities have announced a ban on the import of chicken and poultry products from Uganda.
The announcement made today Tuesday follows confirmation of an outbreak of avian flu in Uganda.
In a statement issued in Kigali, the Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture said that in a bid to mitigate avian flu outbreak, a temporary ban had been imposed on the import of poultry and poultry products from Uganda.
According to the Rwandan food authorities, the infected birds could be a source of infection to poultry which could infect human beings.
It said that all farms across Rwanda were now under observation, following confirmation of the presence of H5N1 virus in one neighboring farm in Uganda.
