Prof. Barya out of MUK VC Race

News coming in from Makerere University indicates that Prof. Venancius Barya has been dropped from the race for the Vice Chancellor.

Barya has been dropped alongside his archrival Prof. Katunguka Rwakyishaya.

The University Senate sat this morning chaired by Prof. Sande Tickodri-Togboa, the acting Vice Chancellor in charge of finance and administration.

This leaves 3 finalists in the race including Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe who got 52 votes, Prof. John Dumba Sentamu who got 42 votes and Prof. Edward Kirumira.

Prof. Kirumira reportedly tied Prof. Barya in 3rd position, forcing a re-run, which saw the former win with a one-vote difference at 32.

The report from Senate will now be forwarded to the University Council, which will choose two names that will then be sent to the Chancellor.

The University chancellor Prof. Mondo Kagonyera will then be tasked with choosing the Vice Chancellor from the 2 names forwarded.

This brings to an end Prof. Barya’s two year’s reign as the University Vice Chancellor.
