President Yoweri Museveni has agreed with visiting Ethiopian Prime Minister to call an urgent summit of a section of African leaders on usage of the Nile waters.
This was disclosed by president Museveni at a joint news conference held this afternoon at State house Entebbe as one of the resolutions from a closed- door meeting with Hailemariam Desalegn.
He says they agreed that a summit of the Nile Basin Heads of state be called to take concrete resolutions over usage of River Nile.
The president said that all countries that share river Nile are undertaking development without proper planning which has negatively impacted the ecosystem of this major natural resource.
He said that although member countries have a right to use these river uniform standards must be set and followed.
Meanwhile, the Government of Uganda has promised to start bi-lateral trade with the Ethiopia as part of efforts towards developing the Northern Corridor.
President Museveni says Uganda has a lot of items it imports from Ethiopia and vice-versa hence the need to promote trade.
The president said that respective ministers have already been directed to start highlighting goods that can be traded between two countries.
