Police has warned the opposition Forum for Democratic Change against going ahead with their planned fundraising campaign meant to raise Makerere University’s lecturers’ incentive arrears.
The University remains closed on the directive of the president after the academic staff went on strike protesting nonpayment of their incentive arrears amounting to Sh28bn.
Former FDC presidential candidate Dr.Kiiza Besigye says after consulting different stake holders like former students, lecturers as well as parents, they agreed to solicit funds from the public so as to raise the 28billion demanded by lecturers.
Besigye says they will convene at Makerere University’s Freedom Square at 10:00am today to collect money and any items that be auctioned to raise money.
However, the police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Emilian Kayima tells KFM, they have written back to the FDC warning party officials against the fundraising campaign, adding that it will be blocked.
