Police denies detaining former VP Bukenya

Kakiri police station commander has been put in a tight corner after receiving orders from his superiors not to arrest Professor Gilbert Bukenya, who wants to join his detained supporters in the police cells.

Prof. Bukenya allegedly stormed the police station demanding for the release of his supporters detained on traffic offences but when the officers refused to heed to his call, he asked officers to detain him with his supporters since he participated in transporting them from his home at Kakiri.

Prof. Bukenya earlier told Daily Monitor on phone that he was under detention, an allegation police deny.

The police spokesperson Fred Enanga says Kakiri police commanders have been ordered to issue express penalty tickets to the driver of the vehicles that were carrying Prof. Bukenya’s supporters and release them immediately.
