NEMA seconds passing of Biosafety Bill 2012

The National Environment Management Authority has recommended that parliament urgently pass the National Biotechnology and Biosafety Bill, 2012 into law.

The Executive Director Tom Okurutu says those who are opposing the bill are making a huge mistake.

He explains that if passed into law, the bill will help protect the public from Genetically Modified Orgnismsthat are brought into the country.

One of the provisions of the bill is that it prescribes standards relating to development of GMOs and coordination of the roles of other lead agencies in relation to handling of GMOs.
