Mysterious Man Dies from Opium Poisoning

The police at Mulago are still examining the body of an un identified man found with 40 pellets of opium weighing about half a kilogram.

The opium valued at about 200 million shillings was found stashed in the dead man’s stomach.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga says the body of the deceased aged around 45 and dressed in a brown cassock was abandoned at Kiwawu in Mityana district.

The director police health services Dr. Moses Byaruhanga says one of the pellets ruptured and dissolved in the blood leading to his death.

He says they have taken more blood samples to further ascertain the cause of the death.
Enanga says this is the fourth case of this nature in the last 13 years with all the other three involving foreigners.
He has cautioned members of the public against drug trafficking as it not only breaks the law but is also dangerous to their lives.

The body still lies at Mulago hospital mortuary.
