Multiplex strike called off

Workers of Multiplex Uganda have called off their strike; bring to an end the short-lived pleasure of free parking in the city.

Employees of the company which manages street parking in the city went on strike this morning demanding for a pay rise, as well as accusing the company’s management of failing to remit their NSSF contributions.

The workers say they earn up to Shs5000 which they want reviewed to match the high cost of living.

The company’s management called a meeting this afternoon, during which the workers agreed to call off the strike ahead of another meeting that will be held on 24th July to address their issues comprehensively.

The Multiplex Managing Director Moses Ndegge however says reviewing salaries may not be possible since the company’s revenue collections are low.

He adds that issues of remittances to NSSF are already being addressed noting that some of the workers are temporary and are not entitled to employer contributions.
