MUK staff protest election of college Principles

By Damali Mukhaye.

Makerere University staff has rejected the new method of election of College Principles, calling the process weak and fraudulent.

The chairperson of Makerere University Academic Staff Association Dr. Muhammad Kiguddu tells KFM that previously, the College Principles were elected through secret ballot as opposed to the proposal to have university council select committee search and recommend qualified candidates on their behalf.

Dr. Kiguddu says they will not allow the university council to disenfranchise staff members, raising fears that the committee could even recommend incompetent people.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor Prof Ddumba Ssentamu confirms to KFM that MUASA has indeed petitioned the university over this process but they will be given a respond after his meeting with the university council chairperson Eng Charles Wana-Etyem.
