MUASA issues another ultimatum, this time on equal pay

By Damali Mukhaye

The Makerere University Academic Staff association (MUASA) has given the university council two weeks to harmonise their salaries for equal pay for equal qualification.

The salary harmonization committee has also been put on notice regarding the same.

According to the chairperson of the association, Dr Muhammad Kigundu unlike other public Universities where a person with a master’s degree qualifies to be a lecturer, at Makerere only PhD holders qualify to be lecturers yet they all get similar salaries.

However, Speaking to KFM, the chairperson of the harmonization committee Thomas Tayebwa has asked MUASA to give them more time and stop issuing threats.

He says they have already written to the National council for higher Education and once they receive a response they will get back to the lecturers.
