The National Water and Sewerage Corporation has promised to extend water services to more than 255 villages in Uganda by 2020.
This is in response to calls by the women through the Uganda Women’s Network to the government to ensure accessibility and affordability of water in the country especially in rural areas.
Speaking at the commencement of the 3rd Women’s Week in Kampala, Alfred Okidi the corporation’s Acting Managing Director said they have so far covered 175 villages.
He adds that their target is to ensure that for every 200 people, there is a water point in the next two years.
The national water body is expected to spend about Sh 90billion to meet this objective.
