More protests over electricity

Calm is slowly returning to Katwe where traders had earlier blocked Entebbe road, as they demonstrated against persistent load shedding.

The demonstration spread from Clock tower to Katwe town.

Anti-riot police has now been deployed to quell the protest.

The demonstrators had lit fires in the middle of the road which the police fire brigade struggled to put out.

The traders say they have not had consistent electricity supply for over a month and are unable to conduct any business.

Those affected mainly include dealers in electronics and the welders. This is the latest of protests that have broken out in different parts of the country over lack of electricity.

Government has promised that the situation will improve before the close of the year with power generation from Bujagali dam.
