Ministry resumes issuance of ordinary passports

By Damali Mukhaye.

The ministry of internal affairs has resumed issuance of ordinary passports to the public.

Government had in June 2017 halted issuance of ordinary passports due to shortage of booklets, urging applicants to be patient until the shortage was addressed.

According to the press statement issued today by the directorate of citizenship and immigration control, normal operations have resumed.

The ministry is optimistic that clearing of the backlog caused by the shortage of passport booklets will take only two weeks.

The proven emergency passport applications will also continue to be issued depending on the urgency of the cases.
