Lord Mayor Lukwago Releases 5-Year Program

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has outlined his plan for his five year term.

In his six –point plan, Lukwago promises to prioritize corporate governance and rule of law, social justice, proper planning and sustainable development, transparency and accountability.

Speaking shortly after he was sworn in this afternoon, Lukwago also promised to promote Kampala and a key tourism hub.

Meanwhile a group of opposition MPs has walked out after Mary Karooro Okurut was introduced as the minister for security.

Led by Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze, the MPs argued that since there is no functional cabinet, it is wrong for anyone to claim to be a minister.

She says Lukwago was denied access to his office before being sworn in so it is fair for the ministers to conduct official business being taking oath.
