Lokodo disappointed by US sanctions

The Ethics and Integrity Minister Rev Fr.  Simon Lokodo has expressed disappointment with the latest move by US government.

This is after the US imposed fresh sanctions on Uganda for passing the anti-gay law.

In their latest efforts to challenge the law, US officials say Ugandans involved in human rights abuses against gay people will be banned from entering the country.

This will see cuts in funding for a number of programs the US has been running with the Ugandan authorities as well as cancelling a military exercise.

Lokodo says this is unfortunate, insists that Uganda is a sovereign state and has values and cultures it upholds that must be respected.

Government has often said it will not be pressed by the West to change the laws, which can see gay people jailed for life.
