Leader of Opposition wants Magyezi Bill rescinded

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kiiza wants Magyezi Bill rescinded and the task left for the government to fulfill its promises on amending the Constitution.

The Bill by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi seeks to repeal Article 102(b) of the Constitution to lift the presidential Age Limit.

However, in her submission to the committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Winnie Kiiza has stated four grounds including a Comprehensive Amendment Bill; a Constitutional Review Commission; Adoption of Supreme Court recommendations on electoral reforms and adoption Parliament Recommendations on Constitution Amendment

The current bill, Ms Kiiza said, is ill intentioned and only aims at catering for the interest of the sitting president [Yoweri Museveni.]

The Leader of Opposition further urgues that the matter for a constitution amendment should be referred to a Constitution Review Commission, where the Bill by Magyezi would only act as an issue of concern, and that the Constitution be reviewed as a whole as opposed to piecemeal amendments.
