Kampala Minister Beti Olive Kamya, has written to the Kampala Capital City Authority executive director, Jennifer Musisi, directing her to gazette more taxi parks and stages to streamline the transport system in the city.
In a letter dated 11 January 2017, Kamya noted that many taxi operators pick and drop passengers on illegal stages, something she said, brings commotion in the city.
The letter is also copied to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen. Jeje Odong, Minister of Works and Transport, Ntege Azuba, Minister of Local Government, Tom Butime, Minister for Security, Gen Henry Tumukunde, Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Frank Mwesigwa and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
Kamya’s letter comes on the heels of haggling between KCCA and taxi operators over illegal stages that have since paralysed both transport and business in the city centre.
