A legislator in Kenya’s parliament has petitioned the country’s Judicial Service Commission to have the Chief Justice David Maraga removed from office.

The move by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu follows the recent annulment of the Presidential election results by Kenya’s Supreme Court.

According to daily nation, The Jubilee lawmaker wants the Judicial Service Commission to investigate the conduct of Justice Maraga since his appointment as Chief Justice.

Wambugu accuses the CJ of instituting “a judicial coup” as the head of the third arm of government.

Wambugu claims Judge Maraga has been held captive by a group of NGOs who have been campaigning against Kenyatta’s presidency since 2013.

However the jubilee party secretary general Raphael Tuju has distanced the party from this petition
