Jamwa returns to court today

Former National Social Security Fund Managing Director David Chandi Jamwa is today expected to appear before the Court of Appeal for hearing of his bail application.

The application that was scheduled for hearing yesterday was pushed to today because the presiding judge Justice Augustine Nshimye was not available.

Jamwa filed the application seeking to be released on bail pending the hearing of the appeal challenging his conviction and sentence.

In his application, Jamwa says he suffers from high blood pressure and needs special care which he cannot access while in prison.

Jamwa was sentenced to 12 years in jail after court convicted him on charges of abuse of office and causing financial loss of 3 billion Shillings.

He is accused of selling government bonds to Crane Bank before their maturity date and at a lower price, leading to the said losses.

In his judgment, retired Anti Corruption Court judge John Bosco Katusi also ordered that Jamwa should not be employed in any public office for a period of ten years.

Jamwa is appealing against the conviction and sentence.
