The presence of old people in key government positions is good the country.
According to Makerere University Chancellor, Prof Mondo Kagonyera, there can never be a government led by the youth and that all those who envision such are dreaming.
He made the remarks while addressing a public lecture dubbed Fathers of the Nation at Makerere University main hall. Quoting the bible, Kagongera said there is a time for everything.

‘’The Bible says there is a time for everything. I was also once as young as you are and even more charismatic so youth is transient as we were also at one time youth,’’ he said.
He has also warned the youth against participating in what he called empty rhetoric and instead advised them to seek knowledge if they are to provide requisite solutions to the country’s problems.
Kagonyera’s comments amid growing concerns about the recent cabinet reshuffle where president Museveni appointed 72 year old Philemon Mateke, as minister of state for Regional Affairs and retained other old long serving members.

Prof Kagonyera warned the youth against participating in what he called empty rhetoric and instead advised them to seek knowledge if they are to provide requisite solutions to the country’s problems.

“Politicians are getting their priorities wrong by concentrating on other things like fighting poverty. Young people have uniform problems which are mostly material. Fight ignorance and the rest will fall into place,’’ he said.

Speaking at the same event, Maj. Gen Pecos Kutesa advised the youth against engaging in subversive acts against the country. “You do not need to go to the bush to capture power to make an impact on your country,” he said
