Government lost $97m to delayed implementation of projects

By Samuel Ssebuliba:

Government is said to have lost nearly 100 million dollars in a space of two years due to delayed implementation of its projects.

The revelations come at the time when government is set to amend Article 26 of the constitution to facilitate faster land acquisition for public infrastructure.

Lands minister Betty Amongi has told journalists that over 50 government projects have delayed due to people who opt for court injunctions to block developments over issues of compensation.

If the proposed amendments are passed, all gazetted corridors will be compensated, but disagreements will be settled in courts of law to allow the project continue uninterrupted by injunctions.
