Former Acting Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Public Service Ada Muwanga has been put on spot over 23 billion shillings spent on ghost pensioners.
The money was spent between 2013 and 2015 according to the Auditor General’s reports for the two financial years.
Parliament’s Public accounts Committee has learnt that ministry officials have no documents to provide proof of payments made.
The findings indicate that 12.7 billion shillings was used in 2013 while another 11 billion shillings was spent in 2014.
The Auditor General noted that the money was spent on persons without mandatory live certificates while they had exceeded the 15 year pensionable period.
The committee Vice chairperson Gerald Karuhanga has informed Muwanga that she risks paying all the money and facing a jail term unless she provides evidence to back the payment made.
