Fake Companies Killing Uganda’s Construction Industry-Byabagambi

Eight of every 10 construction companies in Uganda are fake.
This has been revealed by Works and Transport Minister John Byabagambi who says that many of the construction companies have forged operation certificates, inexperienced staff while others do not physically exist something that greatly affected the construction industry.
Byagambi says this denies chance to potential and genuine companies from winning contracts.
To streamline the construction industry, Byabagambi says his ministry has started scrutinising all construction companies so as to help genuine ones build their potential in the industry.
This all comes a month after former works minister Abrahim Byandala was arrested and charged with several accounts of included abuse of office, causing financial loss, theft, influence peddling among others.
This was after a report by the Inspector General Government implicated the minister for forcing UNRA to sign and advance Shs24.7bn payment to a non-existing US based company Eutaw to construct the Mukono-Katosi road.
