The opposition Uganda People’s Congress has advised the ministry of refugees and disaster preparedness to consider evacuation of people living in all mudslide prone areas not only in Sironko and Bududa districts but in other parts of the country as well.
Yesterday, the Uganda National Metrological Authority warned of possible landslides in the Western and Eastern parts of the country as the rainy season sets in with above normal rains expected in some areas.
According to the UPC party spokesperson Michael Osinde an evacuation will help avoid loss of lives in case of the disaster.
He is meanwhile proposing the planting of trees and in mudslide prone areas as a long term mitigation strategy.
