The Director of Public Prosecutions has spoken out on the withdrawal of cases.

The directorate has often come under sharp criticism for withdrawing cases against some individuals.

However, the DPP Mike Chibita says withdrawals are not a case of losing interest but a strategic tool used to avoid embarrassment.

Chibita says quite often withdrawals are done in cases where prime witnesses are hard to find or are unwilling to testify.
