Doctors await written agreement from government to end their strike

By Samuel Ssebuliba:

Striking Medical doctors await a written confirmation of the agreement they reached with government to end their strike.

This new position was reached after a special cabinet instituted last week to engage doctors in talks aimed at ending the strike presented its report to cabinet yesterday.

The doctors under the Uganda Medical Association laid down their tools on November 6th after government failed to respond to their demands for improved pay and welfare.

The Prime Minister Dor Ruhakana Rugunda says government and leaders of the Uganda Medical Association have held a series of meetings, during which a number of issues have been resolved.

According to Dr Ekwaru Obuku, the president of the Uganda Medical Association both parties have made significant progress on resolving their pay dispute.
