City Taxi Drivers Lament Over Limited Operating Space

Taxi drivers at the new taxi park continue to complain over insufficient space for their operations.
The drivers claim the park only accommodates 350 taxis, contrary to the 10,000 that used to operate there earlier.
The Chairman of the Drivers and Conductors Association, Mr.Mustapha Mayambala says Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has not offered them any options.
Mayambala says this has left many taxis operating on the streets where they end up getting impounded.
He says all drivers operating in the city pay the monthly Sh120,000 and are therefore entitled to parking services.
KCCA spokesman Peter Kawujju however explains that 80 stages were gazetted for the park after its renovation and the rest of the taxis were referred to other parks which the drivers have refused to go to.
