Bududa Rescue efforts frustrated

Local authorities in Bududa district say efforts to search for survivors of Monday’s mudslides are being hampered by the lack of excavators.

Government had promised to send excavators and other essential equipment by yesterday but these are yet to be delivered.

The area LC5 chairman John Baptist Nembeshe says soldiers and police officers are using rudimentary tools like simple hoes to dig up the mud.

He is now appealing to government to urgntly send the requirement and graders so that bodies can be recovered and a decent burial is given to the deceased.

Meanwhile charitable organizations continue sending relief items to the survivors.

This morning the survivors have received a trailer full of tents, mosquito nets and other relief items from UNICEF and World Vision.
