Opposition leader Dr. Kiiza Besigye says he is afraid that he will spend the rest of his entire life reporting in courts if a time limit is not set on how long an accused must attend court without trial.
Besigye who is battling treason charges was addressing the media at the High Court’s Criminal Division this morning where he had reported before the Deputy Registrar in fulfillment of his bail condition.
He has now called on law makers to look into the law regarding capital offences and find a solution to what he has termed as a violation of capital offenders’ rights by continuously reporting to court without trial.
He will now report back before the High Court on the 16th January 2017 following a revision of his bail terms by the registrar Mary Khainza in November 2016, now requiring him to appear just once a month.
