Army re-affirms threat for Parliament takeover

The army has renewed the threat of taking over Parliament.

The Chief of Defense Forces General Aronda Nyakairima has today re-echoed the threat made earlier by President Museveni, to end reported endless bickering.

Addressing the media at the UPDF headquarters, at Mbuya, Nyakairima says the army is watching closely and will not allow the country to be taken back to chaos.

He says the president’s message was clear to those it was intended and if they do not change course then the army will be forced to intervene.

He says the army is determined to do anything protect the prevailing peace and saboteurs will not be given chance to thrive.

Gen. Nyakairima was however quick to add that this remains a possibility and no such action has been taken yet.

The President made the threat recently amidst heightened conflict between Parliament and the executive, over an apparent power struggle.

The 2 clashed over investigations into the death of former MP Cerinah Nebanda, with the executive strongly opposing an independent probe by Parliament.
