The Member of Parliament for Tororo North county Annette Nyaketcho has been forced to return money to her hand bag after residents rejected it saying it is a bribe.
The incidence happened at Molo sub county headquarters where she had organized a meeting to consult her constituents on the proposed amendment to Article 102(b) of the constitution to lift the presidential age limit.
The angry residents have approved the proposed amendment bill but asked their legislator to use the money for another purpose.
Wilber Otim one of the leaders says they are not ready to be bribed so as to second amendment of a bill.
According to the MP, the money was a simple refund for participants’ transport to the venue and back to their respective homes.
However, Otim says the amount is suspicious because parliament has amended several articles in the constitution and each time it did not facilitate MPs to the tune they been facilitated consult on age limit bill.
The consultation meeting was held under heavy police deployment following reports that some people had planned to disrupt it.
