A contingent of 160 African Union police officers including some from Uganda is set to leave Somalia after a one-year tour of duty.

The team is part of a multi-national police force under the African Union Mission in Somalia which is training and mentoring Somali police officers.

According to Simon Mulongo, the Deputy AU Special Representative for Somalia, all the peace enjoyed in Somali is based on presence of this police.

He says businesses are flourishing, investment growing at a very fast rate, flights to Mogadishu have increased and this all possible due to prevailing peace.
