A cabinet team is today expected to meet the leaders of Uganda Medical Association (UMA) over the ongoing doctors’ strike.
The multi-sectoral sub-committee was established by the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda to review and persuade the doctors to return to work.
This comes after the doctors vowed to continue their industrial action until government improves salary and working condition.
The government last week ordered the doctors back to work, prompting them to hit back at health minister Dr. Ruth Achieng and threaten to withdraw emergency health services.
Dr. Ekwaru Obuku says they are aware of the meeting and are ready to engage with the committee but he is yet to receive details of the agenda.
The committee comprises ministers of Health, Finance, Public Service, Education and Sports, Gender Labour and Social Development as well as the Attorney General.
According to the ministry of health public relations officer, Ms Vivian Sserwanja, the meeting kicks off at 10:00am at the office of the Prime Minister.
