Legislation on tobacco to cut disease burden by 70%

Passing the Tobacco Control Bill will help government control upto 70% of tobacco related diseases.

This is according to the Dean of Makerere University school of public Health Dr. William Bazeyo who says they have found out that many of the cancers the country is battling with are as a result of tobacco use.

Dr. Bazeyo adds that besides diseases, the tobacco growing areas have the poorest farmers in the country.

He says they are to set to sensitize legislatures on the benefits of the bill before it can be passed into law.

The Tobacco Control Bill 2014 that is currently before parliament seeks to reduce the sale and consumption of tobacco products.
