50 riders to test new track

The newly revamped Uganda Motocross Arena track will host its first action when the First round of the National Motocross Championship on 4th March with over 50 riders taking part. The track in Busika off Gayaza road has been upgraded to international standards under the close supervision of renowned expert Ray Wilson mainly in preparation for the All Africa Motocross of Nations championship due in August. However this event presents an opportunity for riders to have a feel of the new track while at the same time Asaf Natan,Maxim Van Pee and Barack Orland will be unveiling new bikes as the 2012 season gets underway. Obua too resigns

David Obua has written to Fufa formally announcing his retirement from the national team a day after hitherto Uganda Cranes skipper Ibrahim Sekagya led the way on Monday. According to the National team, The Hearts forward penned the letter last night saying he had decided to end his over 10 years in the national team to allow upcoming youngsters a chance to grow and for him to concentrate on his club football career. In the letter, Obua further added that failing to qualify for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and events surrounding his expulsion from camp before the game were unfortunate but he would continue to support Uganda as a proud Ugandan. Cranes Captain Sekagya retires

Cranes Captain Ibrahim Sekagya has announced his retirement from international football. His retirement takes effect on 1st March, when he joins Nestroy Kizito who also announced his departure a week ago. Now playing for Salzburg, Sekagya’s has had an illustrious career and has been a big inspiration for the Uganda Cranes. Born in 1980, he has played for KCC FC, Atletico in Argentina, F.Carril in Argentina, Arsenal also in Argentina and is currently with Salzburg. Sports analysts say his calm, strong leadership and high level of discipline will be greatly missed by the national team and the country at large. Uganda drops in FIFA rankings

Uganda has dropped 5 places in the FIFA World rankings released today. The fact that the Cranes were not involved in any international competitions explains the drop from 82nd to 87th in the world and from 15th to 20th in Africa. The results of 51 international matches have been taken into account, of which 32 took place as part of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations and 19 were friendlies, yet Uganda did not take part in any. The biggest movers are Zambia, who won their first continental title in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon have climbed up 28 places to 43rd. Nestroy Kizito retires

Former Uganda Cranes left back Nisteroy Joseph Kizito has officially retired from international football according to a statement released by FUFA this morning. Kizito has been a Cranes international since 2001 when he won 33 caps. At club level, Kizito featured for SC Villa from 2000–2004 before moving to Serbian side Srem between 2004 and 2005 where he scored two goals in 21 appearances. Kizito later played for Vojvodina from 2005–2010 scoring once in 112 appearances. He then moved to last club in Serbia Partizan Belgrade between 2010 and 2011 with whom he joined the list of selected Ugandans who have played UEFA Champions League.
