Chaos erupts in Kampala city

Chaos has erupted across the city,with most of the roads impassable. The chaos is notable in the city along Kampala Road, Bwaise, Gayaza, Kalerwe, Mengo, Natete, among others. Youths also attempted to block the road in front of the police headquarters in Kibuli and were dispersed. KFM’s Solomon Oseku is in Kibuli says burning tires were put in front of the police offices, before they were dispersed. Parts of Nasser road also turned earlier as demonstrators blocked the road. The police was also deployed quickly to restore calm. Scenes of people running for their lives and cars being driven at break neck speed are common in different areas. 100 injured, the Red Cross reports

The Uganda Red Cross says at least 100 people have been injured in the protests that rocked the city today. One person is reported to have died during the protests while the 100 have sustained both minor and major injuries. Speaking to KFM the secretary general Uganda Red Cross Society Micheal Nataka says these have been taken to different health centre. Nataka says the patients were mainly from areas of Najjanankumbi, Ntinda, Kasubi, Kireka, Kasangati, Kawempe and Kiwatule. He says most of the injuries were caused by consumption of teargas, stones and beatings.

Besigye released, lawyers say he is in poor medical condition

The FDC Party president col Kizza Besigye has been released by court with no charges read to him, due to his poor medical condition. Besigye was arrested earlier today at Wandegeya and produced before court in Kasangati, presided over the Nabweru court magistrate Justine Atukwasa. Security operatives broke the windows of his car and sprayed into it huge ammounts of teargas into his car, forcing him and his supporters to come out. He was then taken to Kasangati police station from where he was taken to the court. Besigye however could not walk on his own and was supported by his supporters as he walked into the court. Besigye arrested

The FDC President Dr. Kizza Besigye has been arrested at Wandegeya, a Kampala suburb. Besigye has been taken to an unknown destination in a police vehicle. During a scuffle that ensured during his arrest, two people were injured and were rushed to Mulago hospital. The police had to fire tear gas in the air to disperse the crowd that had gathered to witness the event.

Besigye case adjourned

The case against FDC Party President Col. Kiiza Besigye has been adjourned to 2.00pm today, due to the absence of his lawyers. The adjournment has been granted by Nabweru grade one magistrate Justine Atukwasa, who is sitting in Nakasongora. Besigye’s lawyers did not travel to Nakasongora saying they had not received formal communication to the effect that the hearing was being shifted from Nabweru. Speaking to KFM, David Mpanga one of the advocates said there were claims that a formal letter was written to the lawyers but said they hadn’t received it. The magistrate has now adjourned the case to the afternoon to give Besigye time to consult his lawyers. Dr. Besigye was last week charged with holding an unlawful …
