Besigye granted bail

The FDC Party president Col. Kizza Besigye has been granted bail. He has been granted a non-cash bail of 10million shillings and his sureties asked to sign bonds worth 50 million shillings not cash each. Besigye appeared before Court in Nakasongora with his co-accused who include Aaron Kaija, Jethro Niwagaba and Francis Twijukye. The suspects presented several sureties including MPs Kassiano Wadri and Elijah Okupa, Rubaga division chairperson elect Joy Sebugwawo and former Buganda premier Mulwanyamuli Ssemogerere. The others Chapa Karuhanga and FDC’s Sarah Eperu. Besigye however applied for bail before the Court without his lawyers. House collapses on mother and children

Residents of Kibuli have woken up to the shocking news of a house which collapsed last night killing a mother and her 2 children. The deaths occurred at Agip zone in Kibuli, a Kampala suburb. The deceased have been identified as Annet Nabwire and her two children Wenger and Mai. The house was reportedly weakened by the heavy rains that pounded most parts of Kampala last night Another family of a mother and her two children in the next room of the same house survived with serious injuries. Besigye whisked from Wandegeya

The FDC Party President Col. Kiiza Besigye has been whisked away from Wandegeya Police Station. Besigye was arrested early this morning at Kubiri, near Mulago as he attempted to participate in the Walk to Work Campaign. He was taken to Wandegeya Police Station earlier this morning from where he has been whisked. He has been taken in a corolla Vehicle registration number UP1928, with 3 patrol vehicles leading, while one is accompanying him. It remains unclear where he is headed to. Besigye arrested again

Forum for Democratic Change leader Rt. Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye has been intercepted by the police shortly after  he left his home in Kasangati to take part in the Walk-to work protest. He is currently being held at Kasangati police station amid heavy police and military deployment. He has been arrested with two other people including his aide Sam Mugumya Besigye’s arrest comes as members of the opposition continue with their walk to work protests today despite the government’s warning against the same. The walk to work protests begun last week across Kampala and in some parts of the country. Olara Otunnu released

UPC President Dr Olara Otunnu has been released on court bond, along side several opposition figures. Otunnu and 19 others were charged with inciting violence and disobeying lawful orders by the police. The 19 include, Busiro East MP elect Ibrahim Semuju Nganda, Nandala Mafaabi the chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee. Their lawyers included Peter Walubiri, Erias Lukwago and Abdul Katuntu. They all appeared before Nakawa chief Charles Sserubuga. The suspects are expected back to court on 12th May. Otunnu and his co-accused were arrested as they walked along Jinja Road, in the on going Walk to Work Campaign, against the increased cost of living.
