Singh Katongole loses seat

Rubaga North MP Singh Katongole has been thrown out of Parliament. Katongole has lost an attempt to appeal against an earlier High Court ruling that declared Moses Kasibante the lawfully elected area MP. The High Court nullified the controversial vote recount that had declared Singh Katongole winner, saying it had been conducted unlawfully. Katongole attempted to appeal against the sentence and filed a notice in October last year but did not file the main application. Moses Kasibante has now succeeded in his application in which he asked Court to dismiss the notice as having exceeded the time within which it should have been filed. 3 judges led Constance Byamugisha have unanimously agreed that Singh Katongole failed to file his appeal …

Museveni cautions on investors

President Museveni has underscored the need for increased investment if unemployment is to be addressed. Speaking at the Labor Day celebrations held in Gulu district, President Museveni said employment comes from investment. He says the more investments that are attracted in the country; the more employment opportunities will be created. The President said he has plans to conduct three conferences on the matter of employment with the clergy, the kings of Uganda and labor movements respectively. He said his government would increase investments in agriculture, Industries and the services sector, to create more employment opportunities. Veteran journalists honoured

President Yoweri Museveni has decorated over 50 civil servants at the ongoing Labor Day celebrations in Gulu. Among those awarded include veteran journalist Baale Francis, Patrick Luwandaga, Hajji Abdu Nsereko, Dick Mulima Sempaka among other civil servants. The president also honored Dr. Mathew Lokwiya posthumously for his selfless services rendered to the country. He died on duty as he treated Ebola patients. The national Labour Day celebrations are being held at Kaunda grounds in Gulu district under the theme ‘social dialogue for industrial harmony’.  

Prof. Kajubi dies

Family members say Makerere University’s Prof. William Senteza Kajubi could have died of a stroke. Kajibu was found dead in his bathroom at 8.00am this morning. His son Waswa Kajubi says he has not been sick and they suspect that he could have suffered a stroke. Kajubi is survived by 11 children, who include 3 pairs of twins and his body has been taken to Mulago Hospital for postmortem tests. One of Uganda’s foremost thinkers in education, Kajubi was educated at Makerere University 1947 to 1950. He joined the University of Chicago in the USA where he earned a M.Sc. degree with a concentration in geography. Workers MP Lyomoki arrested

Workers MP Sam Lyomoki has been arrested and is being held at the Central police Station. Lyomoki was arrested as he attempted to preside over a rally called by workers at the Constitutional Square. The workers called the rally to highlight their plight and failure by government to address key issues such as instituting a minimum wage. A section of workers are today boycotting the International Labor Day celebrations being held in Gulu District. The police remain heavily deployed at the square, with access to the grounds by members of the public limited. The Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan region Ibin Senkumbi says the Constitutional Square is out of bounds to the public, advising the group to choose an alternative …
