Police summons DP’s Kenneth Kakande

The Police have summoned the Democratic Party Deputy Spokesperson Kenneth Kakande over statements made on the 1.2 trillion fighter jets purchased by government. Kakande is required to appear before CID tomorrow to answer alleged charges of defamation. According to the summons signed by the Assistant Inspector General of Police JB Musana, the defamatory statements were made at the party headquarters on the 19th of this month. Kakande is alleged to have attacked the government and the President as an individual in his statement. Buganda Kingdom stormed

A group of people have today stormed the Buganda King’s Palace in Mengo, with alleged intentions of taking over. The group is said to have stormed the palace claiming that Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi is not the eligible king. The police intervened and arrested 5 people who are being held at Old Kampala Police Station. This comes at a time when the kingdom is preparing to celebrate the 18th coronation of the Kabaka Ronal Muwenda Mutebi. Terror suspects in Court

The Nakawa Chief Magistrate has threatened to release on bail two suspects of the July 11th bomb blasts, if the state fails to wind up its investigations. The two include Suleman Nyamandondo, a Tanzanian national and one Mohammed Ali. The two were scheduled to be committed to the High Court for trial today but the state prosecutor in charge of the case was reportedly out of town on official duty. The Nakawa Chief Magistrate Charles Sserubuga has adjourned the case until 8th August but warned that the suspects will be released on bail on the said date, if the prosecution is not ready to commit them to the High Court. VP Sekandi free

The Vice President Edward Sekandi is a free man following the withdrawal of the petition challenging his election as Bukoto Central MP. Democratic Party’s Jude Mbabali has withdrawn the petition he had filed seeking nullification of the elections, which he said were marred by voter bribery and intimidation, among other forms of malpractice. Through his lawyer, Chrisostom Katumba, Mbabali told court that he had decided to withdraw the petition after calls by several leaders, calling for reconciliation. He singled out the Kampala Arch bishop Dr.Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, the Katikkiro of Buganda Eng. Kazini murder suspect in Court

The hearing of the case against the main suspect in the murder of Major General James Kazini has been scheduled to begin on 22nd August. Lydia Draru has this morning appeared before High Court Judge Monica Mugenyi, who remanded her back to Luzira Prison. She was however not allowed to take plea and the state attorney Fred Kakoza says she will take plea on the same date. Draru is alleged to have murdered major general James Kazini in November 2009 at Wabigalo in Namuwongo, a Kampala suburb. She confessed to having committed the murder before the Police and Buganda Road Chief Magistrate, Francis Wekesa, in an alleged act of self-defence.
