Bombo accident death toll hits 7

The death toll from the Bombo morning accident has risen to seven. This is after two more victims died from Mulago referral hospital where they had been rushed for treatment. The latest victim to succumb to death has been identified as Susan Akello attached to Lira prison, while another man remains unidentified. The early morning accident that occurred near Bombo town at Kalule along the Kampala- Gulu highway involved a bus and a trailer truck. The bus belonging to Gaga bus company reg. number UAL 158Z was heading to Kampala from Lira when it rammed into a stationed trailer truck laden with grain. 8 other victims are still admitted at the hospital, some of them in critical condition. MPs mount pressure on Ministers to resign

Members of Parliament continue to mount pressure on ministers Kidhu Makubuya and Syda Bumba to resign, as their censure from office becomes imminent. The 2 are being held accountable for the inflated 160 billion shillings paid to tycoon Hassan Basajjabalaba, as compensation for cancellation of tenders for management of city markets. The ministers were disowned by President Museveni, who says the money should be recovered. Addressing a joint press conference at Parliament, 15 MPs said the required signatures for the censure of the ministers have been acquired. Conjoined twins laid to rest

The Ngora conjoined twins who passed away yesterday have been laid to rest this afternoon. The twins Apio and Adong were infected with cough and flu on Sunday and were pronounced dead yesterday morning. ┬áMulago referral hospital yesterday offered a vehicle to the deceased parents to enable them transport the bodies to their ancestral home in Ngora district. Speaking fkm the deceased’s father Augustine Patrick Ojangole says burrial arrangements have been finalised. The twins who were born prematurely were just about to make 9months by the time they died. Preliminary investigations indicated that the two shared the heart and liver and the hospital management said their parents had not yet requested for their separation.

Police officers jailed over Nakumatt theft

3 police officers attached to Kiira road police station have been remanded to Luzira Prison, over alleged theft of a money safe from Nakumatt Supermarket. Seargent Paul Odoch, Police Constable Augustine Okech and Detective Constable Emmanuel Onyam have been charged with 3counts of theft, conspiracy to commit a felony and destroying evidence. They are jointly charged with, a sale advisor with Mr. Price outlet, Ivan Ekoo. The 4 are alleged to have stolen a trolley worth 3.4million shillings, a money safe, passport and Kenyan currency cash all totaling to 10.4million shillings. Public transport fares shoot up

With just days to Christmas day, transport fares continue to sky rocket due the increasing demand. Public transport fares have been increasing by the day since the beginning of December, a trend that the players in the transport industry to a number of factors including the high cost of fuel and the police directive against return journeys for those plying long distances.
