Mbarara siamese twins have died

The co-joined twins born at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital have died. This has been confirmed by the hospital Director Dr. George Upenytho. He says they twins died this afternoon before they could be transferred to Mulago hospital for surgery. Upenytho explains that the twins’ organs were not functioning normally, resulting into death. The twins had been joined on the shoulders.  

Gen. Sejjusa asked to prove death threats

Gen David Sejjusa will have to prove claims that his life in danger. This is after his lawyers told members of parliamentary committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline that their client could not turn up in person because his life is threatened. Led by Joseph Luzige, Sejusa’s lawyers asked the committee to consider other means of speaking to their client like Skype because they cannot also represent him in such a matter. Committee chairperson Fox Odoi has now ordered that the team produces evidence to show that Sejusa is not safe in the country by Thursday this week when the committee hears from them again. NSSF announces 11% interest for members

The National Social Security Fund is to pay 11.23% interest to its members for the financial year 2012/2013. This has been announced by State Finance Minister Matia Kasaija at a news conference held this morning. Legally, the finance minister is required to announce the interest rate before October 1st. Today’s announcement indicates an increment from 10% in 2011/2012, implying that the NSSF will pay out Sh227bn, up from Sh202bn paid out earlier. For the fiscal year July 2010 – June 2011, the Fund paid 6% interest to members. The annual rate of interest that NSSF declares on members’ savings is pegged to inflation. Scores injured in Sheema attacks

The UPDF and Police have deployed heavily in Sheema District to following a wave of attacks by machete wielding men yet to be known. This has been confirmed by the District Police Commander Ezekiel Emitu. He says the joint force is carrying out patrols to stem the insecurity and is investigating the incident for leads to the perpetrators. Emitu said the heinous acts begun late August and went on throughout September. He said 15 people have been hacked so far and left for dead but no deaths are registered. Emitu adds that the motive of the attackers who sometimes rape their victims is not known. They attack families at night and also waylay travelers. Matovu’s body lies in state

The body of fallen Bukanga county MP, Gregory Matovu lies is state at Parliament. It was received by deputy speaker Jacob Olounya , NRM chief Whip Justine Lumumba and Agriculture state minister Bright Rwamirama. Members of Parliament and the public will be viewing the body before a special session is held in honor of the late. Matovu, a former member of the ICT committee succumbed to throat cancer at Nakasero hospital yesterday. At 2.30 pm, a special sitting to honor the late Matovu will be held before the body is taken to the deceased’s residence in Bunga, a Kampala suburb for a night vigil.
