Kazinda witness turns suspect

A witness in the Kazinda fraud case has turned a suspect. The Anti-Corruption Court has issued criminal summons against the proprietor of Total Ntinda Service station to answer charges relating to fraud. Shamim Masembe is jointly charged with his station manager Hussein Katumwa, Geoffrey Kazinda, Beatrice Kezzabu assistant commissioner for resettlement in the Office of the Prime minister. Masembe is accused of conspiring with Kazinda and others to steal Shs. 316 million meant for the procurement of fuel and lubricants for vehicles delivering relief food to disaster victims in various districts. She is expected to appear in court tomorrow.  

More female health workers sexually harrassed

The Ministry of Health has admitted that some of its female workers are left off the government payroll due to rejection of sexual favours. Early this week, State Minister of Public Service, Ssezi Mbaguta revealed to Members of Parliament on the Public Service and Local Government Committee that some women are taken off the payroll by their supervisors for refusing to sleep with them. The Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr. Asuman Lukwago says it is true that there are some cases but it is not a general problem. Cabinet okays one-stop center proposal for UIA

Government has approved a proposal to turn Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) into a one–Stop business center. This has put to an end the hectic processes that continue to undermine efforts to promote doing business in the country. The information minister Rose Namayanja says Cabinet observed that UIA had not yet operationalized a one-stop-center system that would ease the process of facilitating investors as prescribed under section 6(c) of the Investment Code Act 1991. Namayanja notes that the move will lead to a reduction in time taken to get license from the initial 30 to only 7 days. FDC’s Dr. Besigye locked in land dispute

Former Forum Democratic Change president Dr Kizza Besigye is locked up in land dispute with an investments company over a plot of land in Rukungiri town valued at Sh 200 million. Besigye has filed a suit before the High Court Land Division in Kampala against the company SIL Investments Limited and one Johnston Kapesha. Through AF Mpanga Advocates, Besigye claims he is the registered owner of the land in question situated on Plot 9 Rukungiri Road. He now wants court to compel the company to return the land title, and desist from claiming ownership of the same. Dr. Besigye says their woes started in June 1998 when Kapesha sought his assistance to boost his business in Rukungiri town.     …

Ocampo set to visit Uganda next week

The former chief prosecutor at the International Criminal Court Luis Moreno Ocampo is scheduled to visit Uganda next week. Ocampo, who left the ICC in 2012, is expected in the country to flag off a campaign to promote education. According to a statement from Invisible Children, a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of LRA-affected communities, the campaign is expected to contribute to the reversal of the negative trend of schools in northern Uganda. Invisible Children Regional Ambassador, Grace Andruvile says this cause is an integral drive to uplift the standards of education among children affected by the war.
