Police breaks silence on letter bomb

The Police have responded to legislators who doubted its investigations into letter bomb sent recently to the Speaker of Parliament Rebeca Kadaga. The state minister for Internal Affairs James Baba revealed that the same bombs were also mailed to president Yoweri Museveni, former FDC president Kiiza Besigye and city lord mayor Erias Lukwago among others. The Inspector General of police Kale Kayihura says the investigations carried out were thorough and revealed that the parcel intended for Kadaga did not contain any explosives as earlier feared.

Kajjansi suspected killers arrested

The police chief has confirmed the arrest of the some of the suspected killers of the Officer in Charge of Kajansi police station. Gen. Kale Kayihura says one of the suspects was arrested from Hoima district where he was receiving treatment after sustaining injuries at the crime scene. Kaihura says the operation was carried out by the police Flying Squad. Joseph Bigirwa was shot dead in a robbery at a mobile money outlet in Kajjansi, off Kampala road. Earlier, four senior police officers were arrested in connection with the murder. They are accused of mismanaging the operation that led to death of their colleague.

Rebel NRM MPs thrown out of parliament

Court has declared the seats of the four expelled MPs vacant. The same court has also ordered the electoral commission to carry out elections in the constituencies that the MPs represented. In the same ruling by the constitutional court, the speaker of parliament has also been told to stop the MPs from attending any committee or plenary seating. UPDF asked to secure border with S.Sudan

The UPDF should now concentrate on securing Uganda’s borders with South Sudan. Some Political analysts have welcomed the decision by government to withdraw UPDF from South Sudan. This week the minister of foreign affairs Sam Kuteesa revealed that the UPDF will withdraw from South Sudan gradually in two months. Dr. Christopher Twesigye says UPDF’s role of Securing Ugandans in South Sudan is complete and should strategies on securing country’s territorial integrity.

No explosives in Kadaga’s letter bomb

Government has ruled out any explosives or harmful material in a letter bomb sent to the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga. This month, reports indicate that a letter bomb was mailed to Kadaga and exploded when one of her aides, Herman Kabogoza opened it. Giving a statement at Parliament this afternoon, Internal affairs minister, James Baba says tests were conducted at the Gov’t Analytical Laboratories, which showed that the package did not contain any material of explosive nature or microbial agents used in terrorism. Baba further reveals that a similar package was also sent to President Yoweri Museveni, and 7 other people including foreign Affairs minister Sam Kutesa, FDC’s Kiiza Besigye, UPC’s Olara Otunu, and city lord mayor Erias Lukwago. …
