Over 3,000 South Sudanese refugees await relocation to Palabek settlement camp

BY JULIUS OCUNGI A total of 3,500 South Sudanese refugees have pitched camp at the Uganda-South Sudan border post of Ngomoromo in Lamwo district as the Office of the Prime Minister finalizes plans to relocate them in the  three settlement centers in the district. Last month Lamwo district local government offered land for the establishment of refugee settlement camps in Palabek Gem, Palabek Kal and Palabek Ogili following influx of South Sudan refugees in the district. The refugees fled their homes following the renewed fights that erupted last week in South Sudan’s Imatong state where government backed forces the Sudan People’s Liberation Army [SPLA] launched  an offensive against various militias in the area. Besigye and team blocked by police from preceding to Kamuli district

The group of opposition leaders including city Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago were making their way to Kamuli to drum up support for their candidate ahead of Wednesday’s by-elections. FDC warns new Electoral commission to desist from perpetuating election malpractice

By Damali Mukhaye The opposition forum for Democratic change party has warned the new Electoral commission to desist from perpetuating election malpractice by the old commission following the chaotic Aruu by- elections. Addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Najjanakumbi, the deputy spokesperson Paul Mwiru says that in the past by-election in Aruu, they witnessed late delivery of electoral materials, denial of accountability of ballot papers, denial of access to the tally center and arrest of opposition supporters. He notes that perpetuating such malpractice by EC undermines democracy and rule of law hence thwarting possibilities of free and fair election. Uganda, Kenya move to build cross border primary schools.

By Steven Ariong. The governments of Kenya and Uganda have resolved to build primary schools along the Kenya Uganda border to help the pastoralist’s children get access to education. The two governments made the decision last week during the cross border peace meeting held in Moroto district. John Byabagambi the minister in charge of Karamoja affairs said building joint cross border schools would also help to cement the relationship between the Karimojong pastoralists and their brothers the Turkana. Currently Karamoja region is hosting more than 90,000 Turkana pastoralists who crossed with their children and livestock in search of water and pasture. The pastoralists are in the areas of Moroto, Kotido and Kaabong.

Besigye denied access to Dr Stella Nyanzi

By Damali Mukhaye Police has blocked a group of opposition politicians from the Forum for Democratic Change party led Dr Kizza Besigye who had gone to Kira police station to visit Makerere university research fellow Dr Stella Nyanzi. Dr Nyanzi was arrested on Friday night at Mackinnon Suites Hotel in Nakesero over cyber harassment contrary to Section 24 of the Computer Misuse Act of 2011 and Offensive Communication contrary to Section 25 of the same law.
