Muslim clerics murder suspects exercise their Constitutional right to remain silent.

Today the 14 suspects alleged to have masterminded the murders of two Muslim clerics have opted to remain silent and let court proceed to write the final verdict basing on the evidence and exhibits already on court record. The suspects including the leader of the Tabliq sect in the country Shiekh Younus Kamoga have today appeared before the International Crimes Division of the High court for their defence. MUK suspend two officials over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.

By Damali Muhkaye Makerere University has suspended two officials from the Department of Procurement and Disposal Unit over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office. Those suspended are the department manager Levi Tushabe and his deputy Francis Ninyenda. The duo is accused of approving the hiring of extra chairs that were used during the 67th graduation ceremony at the university without authorization from the contracts committee. The suspension followed investigation into the award of contracts during the preparation of the graduation ceremony which recommended suspension of the two employees to pave way for investigations. Nyanzi further remanded

By Ruth Anderah BUGANDA road court has further remanded Makerere University research fellow Dr Stella Nyanzi to Luzira prison until tomorrow when she will appear before a High court judge for hearing of her bail application. Justice Elizabeth Kabanda will preside over Nyanzi’s bail application. However Buganda Road Court has heard that while in detention at Luzira women’s prison, Dr. Nyanzi has been barred from reading any other written literature apart from the Holy bible. Stella Nyanzi expected back in court today

By Ruth Anderah Makerere University Researcher Dr.Stella Nyanzi is today expected to appear before Buganda Road Court for mention of the cases against related to offensive facebook posts she made about president Museveni and the First Lady. Dr. Nyanzi has been on remand at Luzira prison since April 13th 2017. She faces two counts of Cyber Harassment and Offensive Communication contrary to the Computer Misuse Act 2011. Prosecution states that on January 28th, 2017 while in Kampala, Dr. Nyanzi used a computer to post on her Facbook page to publish information referring to His Excellence Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as among others a pair of buttocks which suggestion/ proposal is obscene or indecent. CID to be overhauled.

By Ssebuliba Samuel The Uganda Police Force has now embarked on overhauling the criminal investigation system as step towards restoring sanity and efficiency in the force. The move comes barely a week after the police chief Gen Kale Kayihura transferred over 70 senior police officers. Kayihura says the police leadership starting from regional police commanders and divisional police commanders have been redeployed accordingly, so the focus will now on officers in charge of criminal investigations and the traffic department.
