UCC directs telecom companies to switch back all deactivated phone numbers

By Benjamin Jumbe The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has directed all telecom companies to switch back all phone numbers which had been deactivated. This follows a directive by President Yoweri Museveni to have all registered subscribers whose sim cards had been deactivated reactivated giving them upto 30 August to validate their registration. Now addressing journalists after a meeting with telecom operators this morning, the UCC executive director Godfrey Mutabazi said between 2-4m subscribers were switched off on Friday and following the presidential directive which has been received they are to be switched back on immediately. The directive has been issued by the Resident District Commissioner Mr.David Pedo to development partners after he noticed that most of the residents were using the newly distributed mosquito nets for trapping white ants, while others use them for building houses. He said denying relief food to residents found misusing mosquito nets was the perfect way to stop from them from abusing them. Mbale municipal council authorities plot to eliminate stray dogs loitering in town

By CHRISTOPHER OKIRIN The public health department in conjunction with the veterinary department Mbale municipal council have set a four day programme of eliminating stray dogs that are loitering in town. Charles Wandera the health principal inspector Mbale municipal council says the move which starts today follows the surging number of stray dogs roaming in town. The dogs are common in the suburbs of Nkoma, Namatala, industrial area and Mbale town. Wandera said most of the dogs are not immunized which puts the lives of residents  at risk of contracting rabies in case they are bitten by stray dogs. KCCA valuation court to look into pending complaints by city landlords over high property tax

By Amos Ngwomoya The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Valuation court has pledged to look into the pending complaints raised by city landlords over high property tax and forward recommendations to the technical wing for approval. While addressing Journalists at City Hall yesterday shortly after the first session of the hearing, the court’s chairperson, Asuman Basalirwa wondered why majority of city landlords are protesting the tax levied on their buildings yet there is a court meant to dispense justice to them. Police arrests 113 suspects for allegedly terrorizing people in Kampala.

By Damali Mukhaye Police has arrested 113 suspects for allegedly terrorizing people most especially in Kampala. Addressing journalists at the central police station, the commandant Kampala metropolitan police Frank Mwesigwa said those arrested have been on the police watch list for a while now following reports of murder, robbery and theft. The suspects are believed to have been terrorizing residents in the suburbs of Najera, Kira division, Makindye, Bwaise, Kalerwe, Ntinda and some parts of Mukono. Mwesigwa says some of the tools that were recovered include one gun and pistol with bullets, a toy pistol, panga, knives iron bars and other sharp objects.
