IEBC to announce official presidential election results today

By Phillip Maosa Kenya’s Electoral Commission has said it will formally announce the winner of Tuesday’s presidential election today. The announcement comes amid growing tension after the opposition declared election victory for their candidate in departure from law. The National Super Alliance yesterday claimed its presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, is the winner of the election, demanding that he and his running mate, Kalonzo Musyoka, be given power because the results being declared are the product of alleged hacking. The 35 year- old woman drowned last week as she fled from law enforcement officers who were pursuing her, drawing fierce criticism from rights activists. KCCA withdraws all its enforcement officers

By Damali Mukhaye: Kampala Capital City Authority has bowed to pressure and withdrawn all its enforcement officers following the death of a street vendor who drowned in Nakivubo channel. The 35 year- old woman drowned as she fled from law enforcement officers who were pursuing her, drawing fierce criticism. Speaking to KFM, spokesperson person of KCCA peter Kauju says the officers received threats from the public and they cannot return to the field until their safety is ensured. Mulago ready for organ transplant but there is no law -Baterana

Legislators have been asked to fast track the passing of the organ transplant bill. According to the Executive Director of Mulago Hospital Dr. Byarugaba Baterana, Uganda is expected to start performing organ transplants by October this year but this can only be done if there is a legal framework in place. Dr. Baterana was speaking yesterday during a meeting with the NRM Central Executive Committee led by Captain Mike Mukula. The Committee is touring various government projects which are undergoing renovation. Dr Baterana said that 15 Ugandan Doctors have undergone training at India’s Yoshoda hospital while more are expected to be trained to perform heart, kidney and other surgeries. Taban Amin new Kibanda MP after Otada withdraws from race

By Fred Kiva: The Electoral Commission has declared Taban Idi Amin as MP elect for Kibanda North Constituency in Kiryandongo district after his sole rival Sam Otada withdrew his candidature just hours to today’s by-election. Samuel Kiyingi, the Kiryandongo district Returning Officer says Otada wrote to the Electoral Commission last evening withdrawing his candidature. Kiyingi added that the by-election has been called off and Amin declared winner. “We are not going to have an election today (Thursday), because honourable Otada has withdrawn his candidature, so we have instead declared Honourable Amin elected unopposed”.
