Peace concert organized for South Sudanese refugees

By Peter Aligo: A charity concert has been organized for South Sudanese refugees to help them deal with trauma suffered after being driven out of their countries by conflicts. The peace concert organized by the Pacific Asia Society, an organisation of South Koreans attached to Kumi University is to be held at Bidibidi Refugee Settlement Camp in Yumbe district in order to help avert the stigma and trauma among the refugees. Chung Tong Kun the team leader of Pacific Asia Society says, though they have sought a safe haven in Uganda, some of them especially the children and those who lost their partners during the fighting remain traumatized. Man remanded for touching a woman’s breasts

By Ruth Anderah: A 24 year old man has been charged and sent on remand at Luzira prison for touching a woman’s breasts and shoulders. Phillip  Akwetereho a music trainer and a resident of Kamyokya Kisenyi 2 Zone in Kampala has been charged before City Hall Grade One Magistrate Moses Nabende and he denied the offense of indecently assaulting a woman. Prosecution led by Pamela Orogot states that on the 13th July 2017 at Kisenyi 2 zone Akwetereho unlawfully and indecently assaulted a one Irene Arayo by touching her breasts and shoulders. The magistrate has remanded him to Luzira prison until August 3rd when he returns for mention of his case.

NRM summoned for failing to pay 580 million presidential posters debt

By Ruth Anderah: The Commercial Court has issued summons against the ruling NRM party to respond to claims that it has refused to pay a Sh 580 million debt for presidential posters and flyers used in the 2016 presidential campaigns. Elite Graphics Printers Ltd contends that it was contracted in November 2015 to print over 4 million posters and flyers to be used for presidential campaigns at Shs1.3 billion. However in February 2016, NRM only paid Shs800 million leaving a balance of Shs 580 million which it has failed to pay despite repeated demands. FDC Councilors attack Betty Kamya over her plans to take a section their leaders to Kyankwanzi.

By Damali Mukhaye: Forum for Democratic Change Lord Councilors led by Nakawa one councilor Alice Amony have attacked the minister for Kampala Betty Kamya over her plans to take a section their leaders to Kyankwanzi. Kamya was recently quoted in the media as saying that she would take a section of councilors to Kyankwanzi to meet the president of Uganda and discuss some of the issues affecting them including the KCCA budget. However, the councilors are asking Kamya not to waste tax payers’ money on the trip that will yield no fruit. Former Kumi district MP Patrick Amuriat joins race to replace Muntu

The latest is former Member of Parliament for Kumi district Patrick Amuriat who has picked the nomination forms to contest for the FDC presidency, becoming the fourth person to join the race. This has been confirmed by the FDC deputy Secretary General, Harold Kaija. On Monday three candidates including Mubarak Munyagwa, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe South, Moses Byamugisha former youth league leader and Dan Malcolm Masiko, a party member picked the forms.
