Government has been urged to strictly enforce the copy right law if artist are to benefit from their hard work. Early this year, parliament passed the Copyright Act with the main aim of safe guarding interests of artists from opportunists. Now according to Judith Babirye the Woman Member of Parliament for Buikwe District who is also a renowned gospel artist, since the passing of law, not much has been achieved in protecting the interests of artists. She adds that government must have goodwill towards the works of artists since this has now turned out to be a source of employment to many people especially youth.
Hollywood actor Jim Carrey has been sued for allegedly obtaining drugs under a false name for his ex-girlfriend, who died of an overdose last year, court documents show. Mark Burton, the estranged husband of Carrey’s former partner Cathriona White, said the actor used his “immense wealth and celebrity status” to illegally obtain prescription drugs. Carrey then allegedly tried to hide his involvement. White, who was 30, was found dead after overdosing on prescription drugs including Ambien, Propranolol and Percocet, according to the coroner’s office. The actor has not commented.
Game of Thrones has broken the record for the highest number of Primetime Emmy Awards won by any show. The HBO series triumphed in 12 of the 24 categories it was nominated in at Sunday night’s ceremony, including outstanding drama series. The show has now surpassed Frasier’s all-time record of 37 Emmy wins. Last weekend, Game of Thrones dominated the Creative Emmy Awards, picking up nine prizes for technical achievement.
The High Court in Kampala had issued criminal summons ordering two artists that belong to Good Life Music group; Moses Ssekibogo aka Moze Radio and Douglas Mayanja aka Weasel to file their defence on allegations that they defamed their former manager and producer Jeff Kiwanuka. Through his lawyers of Muwema and company advocates, Jeff Kiwanuka commonly known as Kiwa wants court to order the 2 musicians to pay him damages for allegedly uploading a video on their official facebook page accusing him of being a witch in June this year. Kiwa says that being a senior producer with a clean 14 year record, he seeks further orders from court that the duo is permanently barred from uttering any such defamatory statements against him. Madonna and ex-husband Guy Ritchie have settled a court dispute over the custody of their 16-year-old son Rocco. A spokesman for the New York State court system said the pair had reached an agreement, but did not reveal with which parent the teenager would live. Ritchie’s lawyer Peter Bronstein said Rocco would continue to live with his father in London. The dispute arose in December when Rocco ignored a court order to fly back to live with his mother in New York. He has since stayed with his father in the UK capital and enrolled in a school there. Madonna’s lawyers have not commented on the settlement.
