Adjumani Leaders Pin Ministers Over Zoka Forest Statements

Leaders in Adjumani district are suspicious about conflicting statements from government ministers. This follows lands minister Betty Amongi dismissing an earlier statement by her junior minister Persis Namuganza that cabinet had resolved to have Zoka forest degazeted for sugarcane growing. Speaking to Kfm Adjumani Town council chairman Patrick Tandrupasi says the contradictions by the ministers are raising eyebrows among locals. Real Madrid to remodel the Santiago Bernabeu

Real Madrid will be adding a retractable roof to the Santiago Bernabeu after finally reaching an agreement with the city to remodel the stadium. Madrid president Florentino Perez said the project will cost 400 million euros (£360million) and construction is expected to start next year. All Passengers Safe After Ambush On Buses In South Sudan

All passengers who were travelling on three Kampala-bound buses from South Sudan when they were attacked by gunmen on Monday morning have safely been escorted to the Ugandan side. Earlier reports had indicated that scores of Ugandans were feared to have been killed or abducted after three Ugandan buses were ambushed along Nimule-Juba Highway in South Sudan by unknown gunmen. According to Major Caesar Olweny, the UPDF Fourth Division Spokesperson, the attacked buses belong to Echo Bus, Gateway and Friendship Bus Companies. He said the attack happened at Jebelen in Eastern Equatoria state, some 120 kilometers from the Ugandan border side of Elegu in Amuru District. Mawogola County Chief Asks Government To Train Farmers Irrigation Skills

Mawogola County Chief has asked Government to allocate some funds to training farmer’s irrigations skills if they are to increase on their yields. Felix Kabajjo Ssalongo the Mawogola County Chief in Ssembabule district says that a big number of farmers in the country have been affected by long dry spells which caused drying up of crops in several districts. Kabajjo says that if farmers were equipped with irrigations skills they could have saved some of their food crops which dried up in gardens last season. He needs government to allocate some funds to irrigation schemes so that there can be continuity of farming even during dry seasons. Internal affairs to tackle policing gap

The internal affairs minister Gen Jeje Odong has decried the increasing policing gap in Uganda that is failing police operations. Currently Uganda has only 45,000 police officers that are policing the 34 million Ugandans. While speaking to media during a familiarization tour at police headquarters today, Gen Jeje Odong said that the police to people ratio of 1: 9,000 are unacceptable, thus extra efforts are needed to boost recruitment of more offices. He explained that moving forward his ministry is support police to recruit more officers to enable it increase its visibility and effort reduce crime rate.
