UCC dragged to the High court for giving Ugandans a short time to re-register sim cards

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has been dragged to the High court for giving Ugandans a short time to re-register sim cards or be switched off. The Communications regulator gave a deadline of April 20th for all sim card holders to reregister. Rights Trumpet Ltd, a non-government organistaion advocating for human rights says the time frame issued by UCC is inadequate to cover the millions of Ugandans who use mobile phones. The NGO also challenges the act of UCC to restrict Ugandans to only use National IDs as the official identification document for this exercise and deny them the right to use their passports and other official documents issued by the Ugandan Government. Buganda to issue land titles

In a bid to legitimise tenancy and pacify land disputes in Buganda region the Buganda land board has launched a six month campaign dubbed ”A land Tittle for every one” aimed at ensuring that all persons on Kabaka’s land get  land tittles. While flagging off the campaign, the Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga noted that the campaign does not just seek to advance the mutual relationship between the Kabaka and his subjects, but is also a way of him paying them back for the tremendous contributions they have made towards the development of Buganda Kingdom. MUK dismisses 15 students who forged diploma academic transcripts

Makerere University has dismissed 15 students who forged diploma academic transcripts to gain admission to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Pharmacy. Those who were dismissed include 13 first-year Medicine students and 2 pharmacy students all from the college of health sciences. On the 9th of march, the academic registrar, Alfred Masikye Namoah, wrote letters to each of the those students inviting them to appear before the ad hoc committee in the Senate building to defend themselves before the university could take a decision. Only 11 students appeared before the committee but their defense was so shallow and a committee on Wednesday last week decided to dismiss the students from the university. …

Betty Kamya welcomes call by NRM SG to lure Mugisha Muntu back into NRM

Lumumba, who has described Muntu as a man of unmatchable character and a potential replacement of President Museveni says that the former army commander is dining with a wrong team in the opposition, and that he should cross over to the NRM in the bid to consolidate his chances of leading Uganda as president. Kadaga cautions on poor quality products exported

Abubaker Kirunda The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has cautioned people involved in production of goods exported under the African Growth and Opportunity Act [AGOA] against producing poor quality products. While addressing stakeholders under AGOA in Jinja town Rebecca Kadaga said, high quality goods will enable Ugandans to reap big from the US market. Meanwhile, the presidential advisor on AGOA Suzan Muhwezi revealed that the US government has allowed Uganda to export AGOA products for ten more years without export duty.
