Woman gets 3 months jail for stealing a goat

Abubaker Kirunda Buyinja Court Grade one Magistrate in Namayingo District Alice Adong  Amule has jailed a 35-year old woman for 3 months for stealing a goat. Lyaka Florence a resident of Nambugu in Namayingo Town Council was found guilty of committing the offence on October 2. The Magistrate pinned the culprit for stealing a He goat worth Shs 270 000 from her neighbor and took it to   her relatives in another village  where it was found hidden in a bedroom. The Magistrate said she sentenced Lyaka to Namayingo prison for three months so that she refrains from the habit of stealing.

Teachers arrested for marrying P7 pupils

Police in Mayuge have arrested two teachers for allegedly marrying primary seven pupils who finished PLE last week. The suspects have been named as Robert Kititi and Faisali Mukuve both teachers at Sunny Nursary and Primary school located in Bugade Trading centre in Kityerera sub-county in Mayuge district. The Mayuge police Criminal Intelligence Investigations Department Chief Abdallah Nasser Mulimira says the suspects were found with the minor girls aged 13 and 14-years hidden at their residences in Bugade Trading center. Mulimira says the suspects are said to have picked these girls from school as soon as they finished their last PLE paper. He says the parents of the girls reported their disappearance to police who got in touch with locals …

Case backlog committee meets with the Justice Minister

The case backlog committee has today met with the Justice and constitutional Affairs Minister Kahinda Otaffire to take the Ministry’s views on how best to tackle case backlog in the judiciary. The eleven member committee chaired by Court of Appeal Judge Richard Buteera was appointed by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe. They are to report back to him within two months with a report detailing strategies on how to reduce on the over 114,101 case backlog within the judicial system. Some of these cases date as far back as ten years. However as the committee met with Ministry of Justice Officials, the Attorney General William Byaruhanga has expressed concerns about having trouble to identify  and appoint qualified candidates to fill positions of judicial officers at the bench. …

Mayors insists on Vendors

Government has been asked to introduce innovations which will be used to resolve the problem of vendors in the country. The Mayor for Kasese Municipality Godfrey Kabbyanga says a new innovative solution must be initiated to ensure that vendors are accommodated. He says infrastructures for vending in the city must be provided, because vending is not a new phenomenon and living them stranded will instead increase on the number of people living in poverty. Recently Government directed all street vendors in Kampala to vacate the street as with immediate effect, as a measure of streaming trade disorder in the city.
